EXTENSIONS FAQ

Q: Will extensions damage my hair?

A: No. When installed, maintained, and removed properly extensions can help keep hair healthy and encourage growth. Improper installation can cause hair loss, neglecting daily maintenance can cause matting, and impatient removal can cause breakage. Given our long history of extended education and experience, every stylist at Ash + Oak is qualified to deliver flawless applications and removal. Each extension client is sent home with home care instructions as well as a thorough demonstration for home care at the time of the appointment.

Q: How much do they cost?

A: Because extensions are truly a custom service there is no one price that fits all answers. The cost of extensions can range from $500 - $5,000+ depending on the following factors: extension method, length, color, size of the head, and customization. Consultations are always complimentary and will give you a price for the look you are trying to achieve.

Q: Will I be able to wear my hair up?

A: With most methods you can pull your hair into a ponytail. Hand tied and tape in methods can limit movement whereas Great Lengths Keratin bonds can be styled any way you'd like.

Q: How do I know which method I want?

A: A consultation can always help you navigate which extension method is best for you. Factors include lifestyle, budget, and maintenance preference.

Q: How long do they last?

A: Clip Ins: Daily install

Tape In/Hand Tied: In salon maintenance 6-8 weeks (hair can be reused for up to 1 year)

Keratin Tip/Great Lengths: 3 - 5 months (hair is discarded after 1 use)

Q: What is daily home care like?

A: Each day your extensions should be brushed in the morning and at night to ensure they do not twist together or matt. At night while sleeping the hair should be kept in a lose ponytail or braid. Extensions should never be slept on wet and should be blown dry whenever possible to keep prolonged moisture off the attachment sites.

Q: What types of products should be used on extensions?

A: Sulphate free shampoos and conditioners, leave in conditioner on the ends, heat protectant, and oil. Product should never be applied to the attachment sites.

Q: How do I style my hair with extensions in?

A: Styling extensions are the same as styling your own hair. You should blow them dry and use heat tools to create waves and curls or to smooth them out. Heat should not be applied directly to attachment sites.
